Literary Grandmothers / літературні бабусі: In Conversation

Pearse St. Library: Thursday, 26 September at 6pm

Join us for a conversation and literary event with Irish poet Julie Morrissy and Ukrainian writer Darina Sikmashvili as they delve into their projects about grandmothers.

From 2021- 22, Morrissy was the first Poet in Residence at the National Library of Ireland. She will discuss her award-winning project “Certain Individual Women”, which explores womanhood in Ireland over the past 100 years with reference to her own grandmother and Irish law.
Sikmashvili will share her novel-in-progress Mariya Petrovna, which spans Georgia, Ukraine, New York and three generations of women. The writers will investigate how we are shaped by our grandmothers, and Ireland and Ukraine’s shared histories of war, famine and migration.

This two-part event will be Sikmashvili’s first ever reading in Ireland. The second event is a creative writing workshop Writing Family Histories.
