Literary Translation Residency in Dublin - Dutch or Flemish (Autumn 2026)

Literature Ireland and the Trinity Centre for Literary and Cultural Translation have opened applications for a Literary Translator in Residence. This is an opportunity for a translator working from Irish or English into Dutch or Flemish to spend October and November 2026 immersing themselves in Dublin’s rich literary and cultural life.

About the Residency 

The residency is open to those who are currently working on the translation of a work by a contemporary Irish writer and ideally have a contract with a publisher. Translators of literary fiction, literary non-fiction, poetry and drama are all eligible. 

The successful candidate will be asked to work on their translation-in-progress, to immerse themselves in Dublin’s cultural life, to contribute to activities in the MPhil in Literary Translation at Trinity, and to hold one public event near the end of their stay.

Residency Dates: 1 October - 30 November 2026

How to Apply

Applications should include: 

• A brief overview of the translation to be worked on during the residency. This must be the translation of a work of contemporary Irish literature (in English or Irish) into Dutch or Flemish.
• Current curriculum vitae.
• A copy of the translation contract or a letter of intent from a Dutch or Flemish publishing house.
• A sample of the translation-in-progress (approximately 1,000 words of the source text, plus a draft translation).
