The Dublin City Library and Archive provides access to rich collections that highlight the heritage and history of Dublin and Ireland's past. The Archives contains records of the civic government of Dublin, dating from 1171 to the late 20th century, as well as acquired private collections that relate to the history of the Dublin or individuals who worked within the Municipal City, such as Jacob's Biscuit Factory Archive and the Lee Family Papers. An important resource for local history studies, the Dublin and Irish Collections consists of directories, almanacs, maps, books and manuscripts relating to Dublin and Ireland – the core of which is formed by the library of Sir John T. Gilbert.
