Marian Keyes

Marian Keyes was born 10 September 1963. She was raised in Cork but now  and lives in Dun Laoghaire, Dublin. She has been writing for over 30 years and has published novels and non fiction. 

After submitting short stories to Poolbeg Press, the publisher encouraged her to submit a full-length novel. Watermelon was published in 1995 and became the first book in her Walsh Sisters series.  Although her books often explore difficult topics such as mental health, addiction and domestic violence, her writing has a comedic and hopeful tone. 

She has several awards. In 2009, her novel, This Charming Man, was awarded the Irish Popular Fiction Book by Irish Book Awards. She received two additional awards from Irish Book Awards: Ireland AM Popular Non-Fiction Book of the Year for the novel, Making It Up As I Go Along, in 2016, and Author of the Year in 2021.

Her works has been translated into 33 languages and Lucy Sullivan Is Getting Married (1999–2000), Watermelon (2003), Au secours j'ai trente ans (2004) – French adaptation of Last Chance Saloon, The Walsh Sisters (2025) -TV adaptation of Rachel's Holiday and Anybody Out There? Grown Ups (2026)

Marian Keyes was interviewed by Roisin Ingle as part of Dublin City Libraries Reader's Day at Dublin Book Festival. 

She also took part in Dublin, One City, Many Voices, a video  series celebrating 15 years of Dublin as a UNESCO City of Literature in 2025.
