Rónán Hession

Rónán Hession is a Dublin-based Irish writer and musician. His debut novel, Leonard and Hungry Paul , was published in 2019  and was shortlisted for a number of awards, including the Kerry Group Irish Novel of the Year, the An Post Irish Book Awards, the British Book Awards and the Dalkey Literary Awards. The novel was selected as Dublin's One Dublin One Book for 2021 and has since been added to the Irish secondary school curriculum. It has also been adapted as a six-part BBC television series.

His second novel, Panenka (2021), was shortlisted for Novel of the Year at the An Post Irish Book Awards and for the Books Are My Bag Fiction Award. His third novel, Ghost Mountain (2024), received widespread critical acclaim. 

In addition to his fiction, Hession has served as a judge for the An Post Irish Book Awards, the British Book Awards and the Society of Authors' McKitterick Prize. He reviews translated fiction for The Irish Times.

As the musician Mumblin' Deaf Ro, Hession has released three albums of storytelling songs. His third album, Dictionary Crimes, was nominated for the Choice Music Prize for Irish Album of the Year.

Rónán’s fourth novel Richard Heart Julianne will be published in summer 2027.
