Sally Rooney

Sally Rooney was born on 20 February 1991 in County Mayo.  She studied English at Trinity College Dublin and was elected a Scholar. She was also a university debater and in 2013 became the top debater at the European Universities Debating Championships. She later completed an MPhil in American Literature, during which she wrote her debut novel, Conversations with Friends.  

 Conversations with Friends (2017) , won the Sunday Times/PFD Young Writer of the Year Award and was adapted into a television miniseries in 2022. Her second novel, Normal People (2018), was longlisted for the Booker Prize, won Irish Novel of the Year at the Irish Book Awards, and was adapted into an acclaimed television series in 2020. Beautiful World, Where Are You (2021) won Novel of the Year at both the Irish Book Awards and the Dalkey Literary Awards. Intermezzo (2024) received the Sky Arts Award for Literature and was named Foyles' Book of the Year.

Conversations with Friends, Normal People, and Intermezzo have all been nominated for the Dublin Literary Award. 

In addition to her novels, her short stories and poetry have appeared in literary journals and anthologies.
