Reflections - Cathy Sweeney

It was an honour to be involved with this project. Thank you to Dublin UNESCO City of Literature and The Linen Hall Belfast for making it happen, and thank you to Fiona O’Rourke for her brilliant facilitation of the session. What a positive experience. Writers from all over Ireland meeting on a rainy Saturday morning to discuss everything from the craft of short story writing to the role of freedom in the creative process. It was a pleasure to be asked such thoughtful questions about my work and I hope that in my sharing my personal experience – of writing with abandon but editing later with a cold eye, of embracing doubt, and of coming (slowly) to accept that there is no ‘right’ way to write – might chime with others. And, since we had our session on Valentines Day, ❤️ to all!
